Sergio M. Alcocer is a Research Professor in the Institute of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). At UNAM, he was Provost and Director of the Institute of Engineering.
Dr. Alcocer is an International Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering; Past-President and Honorary Member of the Mexican Society of Structural Engineering (SMIE) and Past-President of the Academy of Engineering of Mexico. He is the currently president of the Mexican Council of Foreign Affairs.
In 2017, Dr. Alcocer was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from The University of Arizona. Alcocer is a Distinguished Engineering Alumni of the Cockrell School of Engineering of the University of Texas at Austin. In 2019, Alcocer was recipient of the Charles S. Whitney Medal of the American Concrete Institute.
He received his BSc in Civil Engineering from UNAM, and a PhD in Structures from The University of Texas at Austin.
